Circularity in the beauty and wellness industry

What is circularity?

A circular approach benefits businesses, society, and the environment through a conscious approach to economic growth. Circularity helps tackle the climate crisis through design and manufacturing that eliminate waste, promote reuse/repair/recycle models, and regenerate nature. What will it take to achieve circularity?

Circularity is possible, but not without our collective efforts. Like all change for the better, circularity will require shifts on an individual and industry scale. We have to pause to reconsider our purchasing power. We have to redesign products, distribution, and manufacturing. A big task lies ahead and it will take the coordinated efforts of a collective to make it happen.

We find that consumers, distributors, manufacturers and retailers are too often siloed in their efforts to make environmentally and socially beneficial decisions. Circularity requires bringing together stakeholders from every corner of the industry to work together, share knowledge, and push each other toward a brighter future.

What does circularity have to do with beauty?

Increased awareness of our industry’s impact has resulted in a growing number of brands committing to clean ingredients, sustainable packaging design, and supply chain innovations. Circularity in beauty necessitates that all parts of the supply chain are considered. A holistic view of the industry is necessary to move from an extractive past to a circular future.

Circularity is at the core of Pact’s mission. Our members are beauty brands, suppliers, distributors, and retailers that are committed to pushing the industry to lead the way towards circularity. Moving towards circularity will take all of us working as a collective.
